Access NoteThe Institute of Jazz Studies is the world's foremost jazz archives and research library. Founded in 1952 by pioneer jazz scholar Marshall Stearns (1908-1966), the Institute was relocated to Rutgers in 1966 and has been a pioneering institution in the preservation and access of jazz heritage.
Researchers' use of the Institute's collections is by prior appointment only; if possible, please let archives staff know in advance what materials are requested. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. (Closes at 5:00 pm during intersessions.) Wednesday, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
