Access NoteThe Historical Society of Pennsylvania Library is normally open to the public Tuesday through Friday; check with staff for any temporary changes in hours. Researchers must register and present a photo id. There is a charge of $10.00 per day (as of 2022) for use of the Library collections. Note that entry to the Library, photocopy service, and paging all end forty-five minutes prior to closing.
In addition to its own collections, the Historical Society now provides access to the collections of the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies and the Library Society of Philadelphia. Access to the latter is primarily through a series of card-file catalogues available in the Reference Room.
NOTE: Research appointments can be booked online, and researchers are advised to contact the repository before beginning on-site work. Staff may be able to advise on collections that are not described online, and materials may have to be ordered from off-site storage.
