The boxes contain copies of annual reports of various city departments to the City Council. The contents are not complete; not all departments are represented for each year. In the earlier boxes there may be reports from two or more years, but from 1954 most boxes contain only one year's reports. Most of the basic functions of the city are represented; there are reports from the City Clerk's Office, Fire Department, the Municipal Court, the Public Works Department, the Division of Water Supply, the Board of Education, the Board of Health (including some reports on individual hospitals), and many other agencies. Also included are some financial reports, Commission reports, and reports from non-municipal agencies such as the Port Authority.
NOTE: While some loose copies of Police Department reports are included in these boxes, reports for the years 1930-1968 (with gaps) and 1993 can also be found in a separate series of binders; see under "Police Department/Department of Public Safety: Annual Reports."
