Collection Description
Location: Historical Vault (volumes) and First Floor Stacks (boxes)
Typed and signed copies of minutes of meetings of the Board of Commissioners are found in the following volumes: 1917-1918, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, and 1923.
Beginning in 1924 paperbound volumes of printed minutes were issued monthly; these were bound together by year (for most years in two volumes per year, in some years three volumes) and indexed. Each volume begins with lists of city departments, addresses, and statistical data on the city. There is a complete set of these bound volumes for 1924-1954.
Boxes 0459-0468 contain typed minutes of meetings of the Board of Commissioners, and transcripts of Commissioners' conferences covering the period May 18, 1937 to June 30, 1954, with gaps.
NOTE: NOTE: Board of Commissioners Minutes (typed copies through 1918-1923 and printed copies, 1924-1954) have been digitized and are available for viewing on terminals in the City Archives reading room; consult archives staff for access. The minutes are not yet available to the public online, but copies of the digital files are being deposited at the Charles Cummings New Jersey Information Center at the Newark Public library.
