PowerPoint Introduction to the Environmental Justice Archive (2012)
RepositoryIronbound Environmental Justice History and Resource Center
Size1 DVD
Collection Description
The Archive has prepared a PowerPoint presentation, with narration, that covers the history on environmental problems and campaigns in the Ironbound. Illustrated by material from the Archive, it gives an overview of industrial development in the area, explains the inadequacy of environmental laws and regulations over many decades, and explains the struggles of the community to prevent or reverse environmental abuses. Dramatic photographs of protests at "hot spots" created by the dumping of toxic waste, of explosions and other environmental catastrophes, demonstrations, and testimony at public hearings. On a more positive note, the presentation also highlights the blocking of construction of a sludge incinerator, clean-ups, community gardens, the creation of recreation areas, and other successes.

Visitors wishing to view the PowerPoint should consult library staff. It is also available for showings at schools and meetings. The Archive is hoping to make Spanish and Portuguese versions of the narration available in the near future.
