Collection Description
This small collection contains material relating to three Newark department stores: Haynes', Kresge, and Bamberger's.
Box 1: The Kresge folder contains 3 issues of "Kresge Newark News," a magazine by and for Kresge co-workers (1945-1946); and 2 Christmas catalogues (1954, 1963). The Haynes folder contains "My Little Red Indian Book," a brief illustrated children's book, which appears to have been part of a Christmas promotion; "Gallery of Fame," a guide, with biographical sketches, of an exhibit of portraits; an advertisement for women's shoes with directions for the proper care of feet; and a Christmas catalogue (1976)
Box 2 consists of 16 folders of Bamberger's material
Folder 1 contains an outline, and manuscripts related to the history of Bamberger's, by Frank I. Liveright, a Bamberger's employee from 1898-1938, with help from John Cunningham (ca. 1958); and an issue of "Counter Currents," the Bamberger's employees' magazine (April 1946)
Folders 2-16 contain unbound pages of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings related to Bamberger's (1912-1931, and undated)
