Collection Description
Benjamin Wiilliason (1809-1892) was a lawyer, of Elizabeth, NJ, the son of Isaac H. Williamson. He graduated from the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) in 1827 and was admitted to the bar as an attorney in 1830 and as a counselor in 1833. He served as Prosecutor of the Pleas of Essex County (1848-1852) and Chancellor of New Jersey (1852-1858 or 1859). He married Elizabeth Beasley, sister of New Jersey Chief Justice Mercer Beasley.
Collection Contents
The collection includes letters received, receipts for household goods, and miscellaneous legal documents. Included is a copy of a Chancery Court (Newark) document signed by William Pennington (Aug 24, 1838); and a letter from from William H. Steele of Newark regarding a schools appointment in Middlesex County (Jun 6, 1885).
