The Center is the repository of the administrative records of the Archdiocese of Newark and of Seton Hall University. It also holds records and papers of many individuals and organizations associated in some way with the Archdiocese or the University. The Archdiocese of Newark has always included a large territory in New Jersey, stretching far beyond Newark and its environs. As the Archdiocesan headquarters is in Newark, all of its administrative records may be said to have a Newark connection. But we have chosen to concentrate on those materials that have a more direct connection to the City, excluding, for example, the bulk of the office files of Chancellors, Vicars General, and other archdiocesan administrators.
