Collection Description
This collection consists of several categories of records associated with the administration of parochial schools in the Diocese/Archdiocese of Newark. Contents of the collection are as follows:

Superintendent of Parish Schools Records: Box 1, annual reports (1914-1919); Box 2, annual reports (1910-1925 and 1936); Box 3, annual reports (1923-1929 and 1963-1974), Box 4, annual reports (1963-1965). (Box 5, non-Newark) The Superintendent's printed annual reports include detailed statistics and other information on Newark schools.

Files on Individual Catholic High Schools and Prep Schools: 3 boxes of records, arranged alphabetically by locality, but with the Newark files at the beginning. The files include brochures, flyers, correspondence (including correspondence with municipal education officials), programs, questionnaires, clippings, legal documents, and financial materials (1920s-ca.1981). Box 1 begins with two files of material relating to the 1964-1965 expansion campaign for Catholic high schools in the archdiocese. These are followed by individual files on the following Newark schools: Essex Catholic High School (300 Broadway, 1954-1973), St. Benedict's Preparatory School (1928-1981), and St. Vincent's Academy (1925-1981).

The collection also includes one box of New Jersey Catholic Educational Planning Commission Records (1974): non-Newark.
