Collection Description
This collection consists of research files and original materials used in the preparation of three related projects, all based on the research and collecting efforts of Michael Immerso: the exhibit, "The Vanished First Ward: Newark's Little Italy," held at the Newark Public Library, November 13-December 31. 1996; a PBS documentary on the subject, narrated by Steve Adubato (1997); and Immerso's book, "Newark's Little Italy: The Vanished First Ward," co-published by Rutgers University Press and the Newark Public Library in 1997. The title "Zanfini-Immerso ... Collection" honors Michael Immerso's uncle, Gerard Zanfini, whose stories and passion for local history inspired Immerso to undertake his research.

Box 1, Folder 5: list of maps, diagrams and original clippings; reviews of Michael Immerso's book and interviews with him; publicity material on the PBS documentary "Newark's Little Italy: The Vanished First Ward" (1997); diagram of St. Lucy's Church showing the location of saints' statues a review of the Newark Public Library exhibit; and miscellaneous copies of maps and articles
Box 2 contains two binders; one holds a typescript copy of Michael Immerso's "The Vanished First Ward: Newark's Little Italy," and the other a manuscript labeled "...Addendum and Supplementary Material"
Box 3 contains 7 CD's and 6 Betacam tapes of photographs collected for the Immerso projects
Box 4 contains one Betacam tape of footage of the "Our Lady of Snows" procession, and 11 VHS tapes with raw material for the PBS "Newark's Little Italy" documentary (including stills, inyerviews, and a Peter Rodino "New Jersey Caucus" television interview, 1988)
Box 5 contains VHS "window dubs" of eight interviews; 2 Betacam tapes containing an interview with Monsignor Joseph Granato of St. Lucy's Church (1995); and a VHS copy of the PBS documentary "Newark's Little Italy: The Vanished First Ward"
